Paging Dr. Pet! Top 10 Ways Pets Improve Your Life and Health

If you have a pet in your home, you belong to the 62% of all US households. It’s true, well over half of the US households share their space with a pet companion. Studies have shown that sharing your life and home with a four legged companion reduces stress, aids in happiness, and provides a life time of smiles and laughs. In fact, for nearly 25 years, research has shown that living with pets provides certain health benefits. Pets help lower blood pressure and lessen anxiety. They boost our immunity. They can even help you get dates.

“Studies have shown that Alzheimer’s patients have fewer anxious outbursts if there is an animal in the home,” says Lynette Hart, PhD, associate professor at the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Continue reading

Charlie's Day at the Park

Charlie and I went to Thompson Park to take advantage of the beautiful day. We climbed steep hills and met lot’s of furry and two-legged friends. Charlie visited lots of wooded nooks and crannies sniffing around and having a blast!

Once we were home he ate all of his food and was contently laying on the floor.

The mail is on the kitchen counter and Charlie’s water and food dishes clean and dry.

Charlie Gets a Lift to the Park

Charlie and I ventured to the park today. We explored the lush green fields, adored the brilliant colors beginning to stain the leaves, and expelled lots of energy with a game of fetch on a long lead. We brushed up on his retrieval skills and the “drop it” command with the toy we brought with us. Having something for him to focus on really helped him be efficient in his bringing it back once I threw it and by end of the game was dropping it right at my feet.  We cooled down with a walk around the park. Surprisingly he had nothing to offer as far as #1 or #2 goes. I hope that he will be able to wait until I come back later in the afternoon. Continue reading

Charlie had a great, hour long visit today. He pranced around the neighborhood not straying too far from the house due to the rain we’ve been having today. What crappy weather but this dog couldn’t care less. Charlie is all smiles no matter the weather and its contagious too, I can’t help but smile when I’m with him. Continue reading
